Do Acoustic Panels Help With Insulation?
Acoustic panels barely help with insulation. A 2 inch fiberglass core has some thermal resistance, but your panels cover only patches of wall, and air moves freely around them. Owens Corning's 703 data sheet rates the board at R-4.3 per inch, so a 2 inch panel core is R-8.7.
R-value context
R-value measures resistance to heat flow, and "the higher the R-value, the greater the insulating effectiveness," per the US Department of Energy.
| What | R-value |
|---|---|
| 2 in Owens Corning 703 panel core | R-8.7 |
| 3 in Owens Corning 703 panel core | R-13.0 |
| DOE recommendation, uninsulated attic | R-30 to R-60, by climate zone |
| DOE recommendation, uninsulated wood-frame wall | R-13 in the warmest zones, up to R-20 plus exterior insulation in cold zones |
A panel core can match a warm-climate wall figure. It only insulates the square feet it covers, though, and DOE stresses that "air sealing and moisture control are important to home energy efficiency, health, and comfort."

Related questions
Can I use acoustic panels instead of wall insulation?
No. Panels hang over patches of wall with air moving around them, while insulation fills the whole wall or attic. Use insulation for heat and panels for sound.
Do acoustic panels insulate sound?
They absorb echo inside the room but don't block sound passing through walls. See do acoustic panels keep sound out.
