Privacy Policy

This policy covers homerecordingbook.com. The short version: we use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people read. There are no ads, no accounts, and no forms, and we don't sell your information.

What we collect

We don't ask for your name, email, or anything else to use the site. The only data collected while you browse is the traffic data described under Google Analytics below. Fonts, images, and search all load from this site; Google Analytics is the only outside service a page loads.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to see how many people visit, which pages they read, and roughly where they come from. It sets first-party cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) and collects details such as the pages you view, how long you stay, the site that sent you, your device and browser type, and your approximate location. Google Analytics 4 doesn't log or store IP addresses.

We use these reports only to understand and improve the site. We don't use them for advertising, and we don't combine them with anything else about you. Google processes the data under its own privacy policy; see how Google uses data from sites that use its services.

To opt out, install Google's Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, block cookies for this site in your browser settings, or use a content blocker. The site works the same either way.

What your browser keeps

If you pick light or dark mode, your browser saves that choice in its local storage on your device, under the name "theme," so the next page opens the way you left it. It never leaves your device, and clearing your browser's site data removes it.

Site search runs in your browser. It downloads a search index from this site and matches your words on your device, so what you type isn't sent to us or anyone else. The acoustic panel calculator works the same way.

Server logs

Like every website, the server that delivers these pages may record basic technical details of each request, such as your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for, and the time. These logs are used to keep the site running and secure, and they aren't used to build a profile of you.

If you email us

When you write to mark@homerecordingbook.com, we get your email address, your message, and anything you include. We use them only to read and answer it. We don't add you to a mailing list, and we don't sell, rent, or share your address. Ask us to delete your messages and we will.

Links to other sites

Pages link to manufacturers, standards bodies, and other sources. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and this one doesn't cover them.

Children

The site isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

Your choices

We don't sell or share personal information, as those terms are used in US state privacy laws, and we don't use Google Analytics for targeted advertising. To ask what we hold about you (usually just your emails to us, since analytics reports don't name anyone), or to have it deleted, write to mark@homerecordingbook.com.

Changes

If the site ever adds ads or anything else that collects more data, this policy will be updated before that happens, and the date at the top will change.
